Professor Lan Chaplin’s Research on “Material Parenting” Earns Worldwide Media Attention

UIC Business Associate Professor of Marketing Lan Chaplin’s paper, “Material Parenting: How the Use of Goods in Parenting Fosters Materialism in the Next Generation,” is making news in several countries and across the United States. The paper, co-authored by University of Missouri School of Business Professor Marsha Richins, reveals how the use of material belongings to reward or punish children can shape their image of themselves and others in adulthood.
