Celebrating Excellence: 54th Annual Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards

Sixty-two UIC Business students were recognized at this year’s CSSLA, with ALPFA named Outstanding Student Organization of the Year.

Since 1973, the Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards (CSSLA) have recognized outstanding student leaders and volunteers at the University of Illinois Chicago who demonstrate academic excellence alongside a commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement.

Now in its 54th year, the program continues to showcase the impact of students and organizations across campus and the greater Chicagoland area.

This year’s ceremony took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, recognizing students and organizations for their achievements.

Each year, students, faculty, and staff submit nominations across multiple categories, including the Chancellor’s Student Service Award (CSSA), the Eugertha Bates Memorial Award, the Jane Addams Distinguished Service Award, the UIC Volunteer Service Award, Student Organization Awards, and induction into the Activities Honorary Society.

Honoring ALPFA

Among this year’s standout honorees, the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) at UIC was named Outstanding Student Organization of the Year.

Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, ALPFA demonstrated a strong commitment to student success through high-impact programming, professional development, and community building. Its initiatives focused on career readiness, offering resume reviews, LinkedIn workshops, and skill-building sessions designed to prepare students for the workforce.

In addition to professional development, ALPFA fostered connections between students and alumni through engaging panel discussions. These events provided valuable insight into career pathways while strengthening mentorship opportunities within the UIC community.

The organization also maintained a vibrant campus presence through involvement fairs, recurring engagement initiatives like their “Hotseat” member spotlight series, and ongoing outreach efforts that reinforced their strong sense of community, often referred to as “ALPFAmilia.”

Through this multifaceted approach, ALPFA continues to empower Latino students with the tools, networks, and confidence needed to succeed.

Celebrating Our Business Students

In addition to organizational recognition, UIC Business students were honored for their individual achievements across a range of CSSLA categories.

UIC recognized 62 students from the College of Business Administration nominated and accepted as part of this year’s CSSLA cohort. Selected from more than 650 nominations across the university, 461 students were ultimately honored, with UIC Business represented by a strong, impactful group of student leaders.

These students exemplify leadership, service, and active involvement across campus and beyond, contributing to initiatives that strengthen both the university and the broader community.

Together, this year’s CSSLA recipients reflect the spirit of service and leadership that defines UIC. Through dedication, collaboration, and community engagement, they demonstrate how students can drive meaningful change.
