A Night to Remember: Celebrating UIC’s Legacy and Vision

Dean Sandy Wayne sits at a banquet table with UIC Business students Daniel Martinez and Quinn Basta, alongside Assistant Dean Bryan Duby and alumnus James Wagner, during the An Evening with Legacies & Leaders donor celebration event.

Last Thursday evening, I had the distinct pleasure of attending An Evening with Legacies & Leaders at the Chicago Cultural Center—an inspiring celebration that honored UIC’s donors and the extraordinary impact they make on our community.

Hosted by Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda, the event brought together faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends to celebrate the generosity, vision, and commitment of those who help power our mission. It was a night filled with heartfelt stories, powerful messages, and a shared sense of purpose. The voices of our students and colleagues reminded us all why we do what we do—and how far-reaching the effects of our work truly are.

As I looked around the room, I saw the embodiment of UIC’s values: excellence, equity, and engagement. I left the evening feeling deeply proud and profoundly grateful to be part of this community. Your dedication—whether through teaching, research, service, or support—echoes through Chicago and beyond, shaping lives and transforming futures.

This celebration was for all of us, filled with heartfelt appreciation and admiration for the impact we create together. Thank you for all you do to advance UIC’s mission.
