Brad Sargent’s journey to becoming a dedicated supporter of UIC Business is anything but traditional. In his late 30s, as a husband and father, he applied to UIC Business, entering the accounting program with focus and determination. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a renewed outlook on his future.

While commuting to campus and balancing school with family life, Sargent soon realized just how transformational that degree would become. It opened professional doors that had previously been closed and launched a successful career in forensic accounting.

Motivated by his gratitude and inspired by his education, Sargent returned to campus, initially offering his time and expertise as a guest lecturer. As his career advanced, so did his ability to give back financially, contributing to the Dean’s Fund and serving on multiple advisory boards. His connection with former Dean Michael Mikhail and current Dean Sandy Wayne cemented his trust in the school’s leadership.

“Knowing that my gifts empower the Dean to pursue key initiatives is incredibly rewarding,” Sargent says. “As a forensic accountant, trust matters—and they’ve earned mine.”

Sargent’s support now spans from academics to athletics, and he encourages other alumni to reflect on the impact their UIC degree has made. He believes in the power of giving back, whether through time, talent, or treasure and champions the value of UIC Business’s education.

“We don’t brag on ourselves enough,” he adds. “UIC Business is a great school. Be proud of that degree—it’s competitive, it’s meaningful, and it opens doors.”
