Andrew Cornelio discovered his passion for accounting early—first inspired by his mother and later affirmed through engaging coursework at UIC Business.

After earning his degree, Andrew joined Andersen Tax LLC as a Tax Associate, supporting clients with tax compliance and advisory services. In a role that demands precision, adaptability, and collaboration, he is quickly building both technical expertise and professional confidence.

Andrew credits UIC Business with giving him a strong analytical foundation. Courses in taxation and financial reporting directly translated into the work he now performs, while team-based projects strengthened his communication and time management skills.

Still, when asked what matters most for new graduates entering the profession, Andrew points to something beyond technical preparation: initiative.

“You have to ask for work, ask to join meetings, and seek out training,” he says. “Opportunities don’t always come to you; you have to look for them.”

That proactive approach has helped him accelerate his growth within the firm. Rather than waiting for direction, Andrew actively seeks learning opportunities—an approach that has broadened his experience and deepened his understanding of the profession.

As he continues developing in tax advisory, Andrew remains focused on long-term professional growth and continued learning. His journey serves as a reminder that early career success is shaped not only by knowledge but by the willingness to engage, ask questions, and step forward.

For current students preparing to launch their careers, his advice is clear: raise your hand, stay curious, and take ownership of your growth.
