Blending Community Impact with Career Connections

UIC Accounting Club and BDO partner for service and connection

Accounting Club students stand in line with bags assembling toiletry kits to benefit members of the non-profit, Facing Forward to End Homeless

UIC Accounting Club recently welcomed BDO for a special Firm Night and service project that blended community impact with career exploration.

BDO, known for its strong commitment to social responsibility, shared how the firm and its employees support community service agencies nationwide. One standout initiative allows employees to convert their volunteer hours into monetary donations to eligible nonprofits. In 2024 alone, BDO and its professionals donated over $650,000 and supported more than 1,200 organizations.

As a prelude to the service project, a representative from Facing Forward to End Homelessness, a BDO nonprofit partner, spoke about their mission and the critical work they do to eliminate homelessness. Students and BDO team members then assembled toiletry kits and wrote personal notes of encouragement for individuals served by Facing Forward.

The evening concluded with pizza and networking, giving students the chance to connect directly with BDO professionals, including Sarah Chun, People & Culture Campus Recruiter, and Mike Diaz, Senior Consultant and proud UIC alumnus (’18).
