Celebrating Day of the Dead with the Dean

A festive finale closes the fall "Meet the Dean" series

UIC Business concluded its Meet the Dean series for the Fall 2025 semester with Day of the Dead with the Dean, a vibrant celebration that brought more than 125 students together in Douglass Hall to honor the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos.

The event featured vanilla and chocolate-stuffed churros, Café de Olla—a traditional cinnamon-spiced coffee—and sugar skull treats, creating a warm and welcoming space for students to gather, reflect, and celebrate culture.

Students had the opportunity to connect with Dean Sandy Wayne; take photos with Sparky, UIC’s mascot; and enjoy meaningful conversations with peers and faculty in an atmosphere filled with color and energy.

As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, UIC takes pride in recognizing and honoring the diverse backgrounds of its student body. Celebrating cultural traditions such as Día de los Muertos underscores the college’s commitment to fostering inclusion, community, and belonging—values that define the UIC Business experience both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to celebrating culture, the event also provided students with an opportunity to learn more about upcoming Spring 2026 electives, including courses that highlight how UIC Business is leveraging AI and preparing students to lead in a rapidly evolving business world.

The Meet the Dean series will return in January 2026 with Donuts with the Dean, welcoming students back for the start of the spring semester and continuing the tradition of connection and conversation with college leadership.
