Electronic Commerce Research Celebrates 25 Years of Global Impact and Growth
UIC Business celebrates the 25th anniversary of Electronic Commerce Research (ECR), a Springer hybrid journal that has become a leading publication in the field of electronic marketing.
Over the past quarter-century, ECR has established itself as a premier niche journal, publishing influential research at the intersection of technology and marketing. Since 2013, the journal has been led by Editor-in-Chief and UIC Professor J. Christopher Westland, under whose leadership ECR has experienced significant growth and increased global recognition.
Submissions have risen dramatically — from 120 in 2013 to more than 2,000 annually—reflecting the journal’s expanding reach and reputation. In 2025 alone, ECR published 133 high-quality papers, underscoring its commitment to advancing rigorous, impactful scholarship.
The journal’s strong performance metrics further highlight its standing in the field, with an Impact Factor of 4.7 and a CiteScore of 10.1. ECR is indexed in all major global academic databases and continues to earn international recognition, including an “A” rating from the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Journal Quality List and a “2” rating from the Chartered Association of Business Schools (ABS).
This milestone reflects the dedication of the journal’s authors, reviewers, and readers, whose contributions have shaped its success over the past 25 years. As ECR looks ahead, it remains committed to advancing research and thought leadership in electronic commerce.
