Fall Semester Kickoff: A Week of Connection at UIC Business
UIC BUSINESS Student Involvement Events for new students
The first week of the fall semester brought plenty of energy to UIC Business! From ice cream and giveaways to workshops and peer support, students had multiple opportunities to meet new people, discover campus resources, and start the academic year feeling connected to the UIC Business community.
The semester began on a sweet note with Ice Cream with the Dean. Students filled the Douglass Hall lobby to enjoy ice cream bars, reconnect with friends, and welcome the new academic year alongside Dean Sandy Wayne. The event offered a fun and casual way for new and returning students to meet the dean and celebrate the first day of classes.
That welcoming spirit continued throughout the week at the Ask an Ambassador table. UIC Business Ambassadors answered questions, shared advice, promoted upcoming events, and helped students find their way around campus. Undergraduate advising staff were also available to assist students with their schedules, answer academic questions, and connect them with the services they needed to begin the semester successfully.
The Student Involvement team also hosted two workshops for students ready to take the next step in their involvement. During the Business Ambassador Lunch & Learn, current ambassadors discussed what the position is really like, why they enjoy representing UIC Business, and how interested students could apply. A separate Business Badges Lunch & Learn introduced students to the college’s seven career-readiness badges and explained how they could earn recognition for their leadership, involvement, and professional development outside the classroom.
The week wrapped up with a special celebration for the Class of 2030. First-year students received UIC Business T-shirts, met classmates, and signed the Class of 2030 banner, officially leaving their first mark on the college. The banner will serve as a reminder of where their UIC Business journey began.
