Meet Fernanda Villalpando, a proud first-generation college graduate, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Information and Decision Sciences from UIC Business in May 2025. She now works at Grant Thornton as a Strategic Assurance and SOC Services Associate.
Fernanda was drawn to her career in risk advisory because it combines her passion for business strategy, technology, and problem-solving.
“I’ve always been drawn to roles where I can help organizations operate more responsibly and securely,” she shares. “Risk advisory felt like the perfect blend — it lets me make a meaningful impact while constantly learning.”
Reflecting on what recent graduates need to succeed in her workplace, Fernanda emphasizes the importance of teamwork:
