On June 2, I attended the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce’s 122nd Annual Meeting that focused on the 1901 Project—a bold, long-term vision to transform the United Center campus and surrounding West Side neighborhoods.
I am enthusiastic about the project’s potential to create opportunities right in UIC’s backyard. With plans for new housing, retail, green space, and entertainment across more than 55 acres, the development can drive job creation, innovation, and community investment just steps from our campus.
For our students, this proximity matters. The 1901 Project represents a living classroom—offering pathways for internships, partnerships, and career opportunities, while reinforcing the critical role UIC Business plays in preparing talent to contribute to Chicago’s evolving economy. As the project progresses, I am excited about how UIC Business can help ensure our students and communities are part of the growth and opportunities it brings.
