Young man in a navy suit and blue tie, smiling confidently against a soft gray background. The tone is professional and approachable.

Luis Lopez, associate professor in the Stuart Handler Department of Real Estate at UIC Business, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA). Lopez will serve a three-year term beginning in 2026.

AREUEA members elected Lopez to the board. The board includes leading real estate researchers from institutions around the world, among them the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the National University of Singapore, and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

Lopez follows fellow Stuart Handler Department of Real Estate faculty member Dan McMillen, professor of real estate, who served on the AREUEA board for 15 years, including one year as president and two years as vice president.

Founded more than 45 years ago, AREUEA brings together scholars across disciplines through conferences, research forums, and industry connections. The association publishes the field’s leading academic journal, Real Estate Economics.

AREUEA board members help guide the organization’s strategic direction and support its work advancing research and collaboration in real estate and urban economics.
