Marcos Rivera – Student Success Coach, City Year

Portrait of Marcos Rivera, a UIC Business Human Resource Management major from the Class of 2025, shown in a graphic labeled “Student Success” with the UIC Business logo. He is wearing glasses, a blazer, and a black shirt, with a red cityscape illustration in the background.

Marcos Rivera is a first-generation college graduate who earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from UIC Business in May 2025. He currently serves as a Student Success Coach at City Year, where he supports students through mentorship, academic guidance, and advocacy.

As a first-generation student himself, Marcos brings empathy and lived experience to his work, helping him create strong connections with the students he serves. His approach reflects the people-centered values that guided his studies in human resources and continue to shape his career path.

For current UIC Business students interested in this industry, Marcos offers straightforward and practical advice: “Network and look for opportunities early on. This industry is all about people and forming relationships.”
