Meet the UIC Business Online Program Team

Behind the Scenes of UIC Business's Canvas Transition and Online Program Growth

The Online Programs Team partners with faculty across the College of Business Administration (CBA) to create engaging, high-quality online learning experiences that support student success. We collaborate with instructors to develop, redesign, and enhance courses by incorporating best practices in online teaching, improving accessibility, and ensuring course content remains relevant, effective, and student-centered. With the support of our course builders, we also assist faculty with Canvas migrations, technology integration, course development, and ongoing course improvements. Whether launching a new course, refreshing existing content, or exploring innovative teaching tools and features, our goal is to provide faculty with the resources and support they need while creating a seamless and engaging learning experience for students.

Unit Key Objectives:

We measure our success by the impact we have on both faculty and students. This includes successfully launching new online courses, continuously improving existing courses, completing Canvas migration and course update projects on schedule, and providing responsive support that faculty find valuable. As the Online Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program continues to grow, we also play an important role in ensuring courses are scalable, consistent, and designed to support student success. Ultimately, our goal is to make online teaching easier and more effective for faculty while creating engaging learning experiences that help students thrive and persist towards graduation.

In addition to their instructional design responsibilities, Kalee and Trischa oversee and manage the work of the course builders, coordinating course development projects, content implementation, Canvas migrations, course maintenance, and quality assurance reviews. They also stay current on evolving ADA accessibility requirements, emerging instructional technologies, and online learning trends to help ensure courses remain compliant, inclusive, and accessible for all learners. Together, they help faculty translate their subject-matter expertise into well-designed online courses that promote student engagement, support learning outcomes, and provide consistent experience across the College’s growing Online BBA and graduate business programs.

This past year was a transformative one for the Online Programs Team as we helped lead the College of Business Administration through its transition to Canvas. Working closely with faculty, our instructional design team and course builders supported the migration of 767 courses, assisted 249 faculty members, and helped ensure a smooth learning experience for more than 26,000 student enrollments. Beyond the technical work of migration, we spent countless hours consulting with faculty, troubleshooting issues, offering training sessions, and helping instructors adapt their teaching materials to a new platform.

We also continued to expand and strengthen the College’s online course offerings by partnering with faculty to develop and launch new courses in managerial studies, human resources, and artificial intelligence. These efforts have helped support the continued growth of the college’s online program while creating more engaging and consistent online learning experiences for students.

Students learn how to effectively use Canvas, stay organized, connect with campus resources, and build habits that support academic achievement. The workshop also gives students an opportunity to ask questions, meet members of the Online Programs Team, and feel more connected to the UIC Business community before classes begin.

Looking ahead, the Online Programs Team is excited to continue building on the momentum of the past year. A major focus will be supporting the next phase of the College’s Canvas transition, with over 500 additional courses still slated for migration and launch. We will continue partnering with faculty through workshops, boot camps, one-on-one consultations, and expanded online resources to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

We are also excited to launch several new graduate business courses while continuing to enhance and refresh existing offerings to ensure students have a high-quality learning experience. At the same time, the Online BBA program is entering an exciting phase of growth. Through our partnership with Extended Campus, we are working to expand the program and create greater access to a UIC Business education, providing more students with the opportunity to earn their degree through a flexible online format.

Canvas Transition

As the College continues its transition to Canvas, we encourage all faculty to attend one of our upcoming Canvas Camp sessions to get started sooner rather than later. Please contact bizcb@uic.edu for Zoom link:

  • Monday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
  • Friday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

All Fall 2026 CBA courses will be taught in Canvas, and our team is working to ensure all Fall courses are migrated before the start of the semester. Participating in Canvas Camp will help faculty become familiar with the platform, understand the migration process, and identify any updates needed before their courses go live. For Spring 2027 courses and any additional courses that need to be migrated or archived from Blackboard, please submit your request to bizcb@uic.edu as early as possible. Early requests help us prioritize course migrations and preserve important course materials before Blackboard is retired.

We also ask faculty to support the College’s commitment to accessible and inclusive learning by reviewing their courses for ADA compliance and working toward a Panorama accessibility score of 85% or higher. Canvas and Panorama provide course-level accessibility reports that can help identify areas for improvement and ensure all students can effectively access course content.

If you have questions about your course migration status, Canvas preparedness, or accessibility improvements, please contact bizcb@uic.edu. By working together, we can create a smooth transition to Canvas and provide a high-quality learning experience for our students.
