Double UIC alum earns top teaching honor for inspiring student success
Neel Patel named Educator of the Year
Neel Patel, Visiting Lecturer in the Accounting Department, was recognized as Educator of the Year at the 53rd Annual Accounting Banquet, held on April 30 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverfront.
This recognition marks a meaningful full-circle moment for Neel, a double alumnus of UIC Business. He earned both his BS in Accounting and Master of Science in Accounting at UIC, where he was actively involved as Accounting Club President, a teaching assistant, and even helped lead the Accounting Banquet during his time as a student.
After gaining professional experience with RSM and the Ferrara Candy Company, Neel returned to UIC, where he has made a tremendous impact in the classroom and beyond. Known for making complex accounting concepts approachable, he creates an engaging and supportive learning environment for his students.
Neel’s connection with students extends outside the classroom as well. Through his active social media presence (@profpatel), he fosters a unique level of engagement, often incorporating interactive challenges and friendly competitions that reinforce course concepts in creative ways.
Congratulations to Neel on this well-deserved recognition and for the lasting impact he continues to make on UIC Business students.
