Selva Nadarajah Delivers Keynote on Energy and Computing at Duke
Story
Selva Nadarajah, Professor and Department Head of Information and Decision Sciences at UIC Business, delivered a keynote address at the 2026 INFORMS Advances in Decision Analysis Conference, held at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
Nadarajah’s keynote, titled “The Energy-Computing Nexus: Self-Adapting Approximations for Energy Investment and Operations,” examined the growing relationship between energy infrastructure and computing demand. As artificial intelligence and other advanced computing technologies drive increasing demand for energy, organizations face new challenges in determining how to invest in and operate energy infrastructure effectively.
His talk focused on valuation and decision models that can help address these challenges, highlighting the importance of adaptive approaches as both computing needs and energy systems continue to evolve.
The conference brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss advances in decision analysis and its applications to complex organizational and societal challenges. Nadarajah was one of three keynote speakers at the conference. The other keynote speakers were Aaron “Ronnie” Chatterji, Chief Economist at OpenAI and Mark Burgess & Lisa Benson-Burgess Distinguished Professor of Business and Public Policy at Duke University, and Craig Fox, Harold Williams Chair and Professor of Management at UCLA.
Nadarajah’s participation reflects UIC Business’s continued engagement with research at the intersection of analytics, technology, operations and complex decision-making.
