Selva Nadarajah Background
UIC Business is pleased to announce Selva Nadarajah as the new Head of the Department of Information and Decision Sciences, effective August 15, 2026.
Dr. Nadarajah joined UIC Business in 2014 and has since risen through the ranks to Professor of Information and Decision Sciences and Bielinski Family Endowed Scholar at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Business Administration. His research develops computational methods for investment and operations decisions under uncertainty, with applications spanning energy real options, renewable procurement, and capacity expansion to support growing AI and data center energy demand. He previously served as the Decision Intelligence R&D Lead at the Discovery Partners Institute, the innovation hub of the University of Illinois System.
Dr. Nadarajah’s work has been recognized with the 2024 INFORMS Harvey J. Greenberg Research Award, the 2021 Commodity and Energy Markets Association Best Paper Award, the 2020 INFORMS ENRE Young Researcher Prize, and the NeurIPS 2020 Overall Best Paper Award. In 2025, he was named a Faculty Explorer by the U.S. Department of Energy’s EnergyTech University Prize for advancing student energy technology and entrepreneurship. He serves as Associate Editor for Decision Sciences, Operations Research, and Production and Operations Management. His research has been funded by the Argonne National Laboratory, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and Amazon AWS.
