UIC Business Students Shine at National AWS Hackathon
UIC Students Shine at National AWS Hackathon
We’re thrilled to announce that our talented UIC Business students earned 2nd place — Anish Kulkarni, Krima Mehta, Ujjwal Singh — and 3rd place — Sankalp Gummuluri, Sapna Patel, Aryaman Narang — at the National Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jam Hackathon on October 2, competing against teams from nearly 60 universities!
What They Achieved:
The AWS Jam tested participants on real-world scenarios involving cloud architecture, security, DevOps, and automation. Our students demonstrated exceptional technical prowess by solving complex challenges using:
- AWS services like Lambda, EC2, S3, CloudFormation, and IAM
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
- Security best practices and incident response
- Automation and monitoring tools to optimize performance
Beyond the Code:
This wasn’t just a test of technical skill — it was a masterclass in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Our students:
- Worked under pressure in fast-paced team environments
- Practiced agile problem-solving and decision-making
- Strengthened leadership and presentation skills
- Learned to adapt quickly to new tools and scenarios
Their success is a testament to the strength of UIC’s curriculum, the dedication of our faculty, and the drive of our students to innovate and excel.
A special thank you to Craig von Collenberg for hosting the event and Mike Erikson for organizing the challenging hackathon.
