Dr. Abhishek Sharma
Dr. Abhishek Sharma, Ph.D., joins UIC Business as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Information and Decision Sciences (IDS). He brings more than two decades of experience spanning academia, artificial intelligence, data science, and industry leadership. His areas of interest and expertise include artificial intelligence, data analytics, database systems, data architecture, data warehousing, forecasting, machine learning, and healthcare informatics.
Before joining UIC, Dr. Sharma served on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business, where he developed and taught multiple graduate and undergraduate courses in database systems, data architecture, business analytics, forecasting, data warehousing, artificial intelligence, and technology and product strategy. He also significantly contributed to the development of Loyola’s MS in Business Data Analytics program and has received multiple recognitions for excellence in graduate teaching.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Sharma has held senior leadership roles in data, analytics, and AI across healthcare, financial services, and technology organizations, bringing extensive real-world experience into the classroom. His research interests include conceptual data modeling, database practice, artificial intelligence, healthcare analytics, and applied data science. His scholarly work has appeared in publications including Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Management, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, and NEJM AI.
Dr. Sharma’s work is centered on bridging rigorous academic thinking with practical, real-world applications of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence, with a strong emphasis on preparing students to solve complex business and technology challenges.
