Yingda Lu: From Inventory to Live Streams

Yingda Lu, Associate Professor of IDS

Associate Professor Yingda Lu has recently co-authored two papers published in Information Systems Research.

His first paper, Can Providing Algorithmic Performance Information Facilitate Humans’ Inventory Ordering Behaviors?” explores how sharing algorithm performance—especially when it’s poor—can help managers make better inventory decisions. The study finds that transparency is particularly valuable in uncertain situations, with low sales or less experienced managers.

The second paper, “Lost in the Crowd: How Group Size and Content Moderation Shape User Engagement in Live Streaming,”explores how large group sizes on platforms like Twitch and YouTube Live can lower user engagement due to chaotic conversations. The study finds that both human and bot moderators can keep discussions focused and emotionally balanced, sustaining user participation even as audiences expand.
