Why Earn Your MSHRM at UIC
The Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM) at UIC is a fully online, asynchronous program designed for flexibility and academic excellence. Taught by the same experienced faculty who lead on-campus courses, the program ensures consistency and rigor across formats. With a curriculum aligned to Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) standards, students gain advanced knowledge and practical skills for both specialist and generalist HR roles. Graduates are prepared for SHRM certification and equipped to succeed in diverse positions such as recruiter, benefits manager, trainer, compensation analyst, job analyst, and diversity manager.
Master of Science in Human Resource Management Courses
MSHRM CORE COURSES
- Organizational Behavior: Explores the organization as a dynamic social system, focusing on key aspects of human behavior in the workplace. Topics include leadership, group dynamics, motivation, conflict resolution, change management, and effective interpersonal communication.
- Human Resource Management: Human resource management programs and policies. Staffing, training and development; historical evolution of personnel policies, modern labor force and technological trends; supervision, salary administration, human resource research and utilization.
- Strategic Human Resource Management Consulting: Capstone course ties together the conceptual and technical material in the core courses and electives with discussion and cases to address issues related to human resource management strategy and consulting for organizations and effective management practice.
- Talent Management: Examination of topics related to recruiting, selecting, motivating, retaining, training, developing, and separating employees; and human resource metrics, measurement, and information systems.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university. Applicants must submit the following information and documentation:
- A copy of their academic transcript(s) indicated earned degree(s).
- A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00/4.00 is required for the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of their undergraduate study (or alternatively, a GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 in a master’s program).
- A personal statement explaining the student’s interest and goals for the program
- Two letters of recommendation
- If you wish to opt for a GRE/GMAT test waiver please submit the MS Program Waiver Request Form.
- Valid English proficiency test scores must be submitted if required, based on the country or territory in which an applicant previously studied. Refer to UIC’s Admissions requirements.
- $80 application fee: Fee waiver available for full or expected UIC alumni. This includes (1) Those students who have fully earned, or will earn, a UIC Bachelor’s degree by the proposed term of enrollment in a UIC graduate program and (2) UIC seniors who are seeking concurrent graduate enrollment for the final year of their undergraduate study. The waiver does not apply to those who have attended UIC, but not earned a degree; applicants to UIC professional programs; alumni of UIUC or UIS.
