About

Dr. Deanna L. Kolar is a Clinical Associate Professor of Managerial Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Business Administration and serves as the Director (DGS) of the Master of Human Resource Management program. In addition to steering graduate curriculum objectives, she represents the Department of Managerial Studies on the Graduate Academic Program Committee and previously served as the departmental faculty representative on the CBA Assurance of Learning Committee. Dr. Kolar is also a licensed attorney with active legal credentials in Michigan and Florida.

Dr. Kolar’s research micro-infrastructure centers on organizational behavior and strategic human resource management, with a highly specialized focus on the social, occupational, and societal dynamics governing "dirty work" professions. Her research utilizes mixed-method methodologies to investigate job satisfaction, stigma management, and the organizational forces that influence employee retention and an individual's intention to stay in stigmatized roles. Her scholarship has achieved publication in prominent international peer-reviewed journals, including Work, Employment and Society and the Journal of Facility Planning, Design, and Management, along with definitive textbook chapters regarding corporate capital frameworks and strategic human asset planning.

Prior to joining UIC, Dr. Kolar established an extensive global academic profile, serving on the faculty at the University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business & Economics and as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Academic Director at Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management, where she directed the Human Capital Consulting Program and served as the Faculty Liaison to the HR Corporate Leadership Council. Her international teaching dossier includes faculty appointments at King's College London, SKEMA Business School, ISC Paris School of Management, and the IAE-Aix-en-Provence Graduate School of Management in France. Dr. Kolar earned her Ph.D. in Management Studies from King’s College University of London, her Juris Doctor from the DePaul University College of Law, an M.A. in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University in London, and a B.A. in Communication from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
