The inaugural UIC Finance Conference, held on May 17 and 18, brought together more than 60 finance scholars at the UIC campus in Chicago. The conference hosted 12 presentations of research papers by faculty and PhD students from universities worldwide, selected from a competitive pool of 317 submissions. The sessions covered diverse topics in finance, including banking, portfolio selection, entrepreneurial finance, innovation, corporate governance, and financial planning. Professor Stefan Nagel from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business delivered the keynote speech titled “Interest Rate Risk in Banking” at the conference dinner, held at The Metropolitan on the 66th floor of the Willis Tower. Participants enjoyed breathtaking sunset views of the Chicago skyline.

Professor Huseyin Gulen

Professor Huseyin Gulen from Purdue University was awarded the top discussant award of $500. The top discussant was determined by an online poll of all conference participants at the end of the conference.
