The 2016 Startup Challenge at UIC Business took place last Friday, April 15th in Student Center East, and included 56 teams representing 12 different colleges at the university. First prize went to Rachel Harsley, a computer science PhD candidate at UIC, for her Clean Slate Messenger app, which allows users to delete their own messages from both their own and other users’ phones. Harsley, who will join Google later this year, spoke with ChicagoInno about the opportunity to pitch her app to the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at UIC Business.
Second place at this year’s Startup Challenge went to Beet Strong, a beet-infused nutrition bar presented by Sofia Sanchez, a UIC Liautaud student, and Austin Robinson, a graduate student in the College of Applied Health Sciences. For a full list of this year’s finalists, visit ies.uic.edu/startup.
