About
Jason V. Chen is a Bielinski Faculty Scholar and Associate Professor of Accounting at the UIC College of Business Administration, where he has taught since 2015. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Michigan and brings a rare interdisciplinary background — combining degrees in computer science, accounting, and management — to his teaching and research. Professor Chen is a nationally recognized researcher whose work has been published in premier journals including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Management Science, Journal of Accounting Research, and the Review of Accounting Studies, and one of his papers was featured in The Wall Street Journal. A pioneer in accounting data analytics at UIC, he created the college's Data Analytics for Accountants course and leads the department's curriculum innovation efforts in AI and business analytics. He has received UIC's Recognition for Outstanding Teaching every year since 2018, reflecting his deep commitment to student success and career preparation.
Commitment to students
Professor Chen is a leader in preparing students for the data-driven future of accounting. He created UIC's Data Analytics for Accountants course and chairs the Accounting Department Curriculum Committee, leading efforts to integrate AI and business analytics into the accounting curriculum. He has served as the Accounting Undergraduate Faculty Advisor since 2015 and has been a Business Scholars Faculty Family Leader since 2018, providing sustained mentorship to students throughout their academic careers. His interdisciplinary background in computer science and accounting gives students a distinctive edge in today's technology-forward business environment.
