About

Rustam Zufarov, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Business Administration. An award-winning researcher in corporate disclosure and financial economics, his scholarship focuses on the strategic deployment of proprietary information, private loan contract engineering, equity financing structures, and the valuation of restricted securities.

Dr. Zufarov joined the UIC Department of Accounting in 2020. His research has earned top disciplinary honors, including the prestigious American Accounting Association (AAA) Competitive Manuscript Award and the Ernst & Young Research Award. His work is published in premier, peer-reviewed business journals such as Management Science, The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Prior to entering academia, he gained corporate experience in public accounting as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche LLP and as a tax associate. He holds a PhD in Accounting and an MA in Business Administration from Rice University, alongside an MS and BS in Accounting from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
